Training Trust work based learning for young trainees
Employers

Whatever the size of your business finding skilled and motivated employees is always a problem. By recruiting a young person onto an Apprenticeship Programme you have the opportunity to train them to meet your needs whilst they develop their skills to nationally recognised standards.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR MY BUSINESS?
  • Cost effective recruitment – free pre-testing and selection of candidates.
  • Development of a well trained, well motivated workforce – you have the opportunity to train your staff to meet your needs.
  • Free training for 16-18 year olds, financial contribution required for 19 – 24 learners aged 19-24 years.
  • Advice on Health & Safety, Equal Opportunites and current employment legislation, support pack with sample documentation provided.
  • Regular visits from our Liaison Officers to support your employees learning.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

You will be expected to pay your employee an acceptable wage and meet all other employment related costs. Your Apprentice should receive a suitable level of supervision in the workplace and be given the opportunity to develop their skills to meet the requirements of the apprenticeship programme.

Your Apprentice will need to attend college on a day release basis throughout their programme, there may also be times when the Apprentice has to attend additional training at either the Training Trust offices or at college, you will be advised in writing when this occurs. Our Liaison Officers will need to meet with yourself or the Apprentices Supervisor every 8 weeks to discuss their progress and set targets for the Apprentice.

We will need to meet with you to assess the Health & Safety standards in your workplace.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Before placing an Apprentice with an employer we carry out a health & safety assessment of your organisation. Where practical we need to see where the Apprentice will be working and see your health and safety documentation. As a minimum you will require the following and a qualified member of our staff will assist you in producing procedures you do not have;
  • Insurance – employers must hold a minimum of employers liability insurance. Current certificates should be displayed.
  • Safety Policy – companies who employ 5 or more people must have a written safety policy which again should be displayed
  • Risk Assessments – these should be carried out on all areas of the workplace, including the risks relating to fire. These assessments should be written down.
  • Accident procedures – employers should have adequate first aid facilities, including accident book, first aid box and depending on the size of the organisation a qualified first aider.
  • Personal Protective Equipment – employers have a responsibility to provide PPE to it’s employees.
If you do not have a current Health & Safety Policy we are able to provide you with a sample policy for your use.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

We are an Equal Opportunites Employer and we expect all our partners involved in the training of young people to comply with current legislation. If you do not have a current Equality & Diversity Policy we are able to provide you with a sample policy for your use.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

For employers who take on an Apprentice aged 16-18 years of age there is no cost for their training. You will however be expected to pay the learner an acceptable wage for your occupational area and release the learner one day per week to attend college. For Apprentices aged 19-24 years of age, employers are required to pay a monthly contribution towards the cost of their training.
